What's So Great About Glazed Nutella Donuts?

These Nutella Stuffed Donuts offer a mouth-watering surprise in every bite. I juts love the fluffy, chocolatey cake-like donut, with a delicious center melted Nutella. They're topped with this smooth chocolate glaze that takes them to a whole new level of deliciousness. Trust me, once you try these donuts, you'll be hooked!

    Ingredients For Chocolate Glazed Donuts

    • All-Purpose Flour: All-purpose flour serves as the base of the donut batter. It provides structure and helps create a tender texture for the chocolate glazed donuts.
    • Cocoa Powder: Cocoa powder adds a rich chocolate flavor and deep brown color to the donuts, enhancing their overall chocolaty goodness.
    • Baking Soda: Baking soda is a leavening agent that helps the donuts rise and become light and fluffy.
    • Unsalted Butter: Melted unsalted butter adds moisture, richness, and a buttery flavor to the donut batter.
    • Egg: A large egg helps bind the ingredients together and provides structure to the donuts.
    • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar contributes a warm, caramel-like flavor and moisture to the batter, enhancing the sweetness and texture of the chocolate glazed donuts.
    • White Sugar: White sugar adds sweetness to the donut batter, balancing the flavors with the brown sugar.
    • Buttermilk: Buttermilk provides acidity, which interacts with the baking soda to help the donuts rise. It also adds a pleasant tanginess and moisture to the batter.
    • Nutella: Nutella is the star of the show, providing a creamy and nutty chocolate-hazelnut filling that oozes with flavor when baked. It's a delightful surprise at the center of each chocolate glazed donut.
    • Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate is used to make the smooth and luscious chocolate glaze that coats the donuts. It provides a rich and intense chocolate flavor.
    • Whipping Cream: Whipping cream is combined with dark chocolate to create the velvety chocolate glaze. It adds creaminess and helps achieve the desired consistency.

Set and Serve: Let the glaze set before serving. Enjoy your Nutella Stuffed Donut with toppings of your choice.

    Pro Tip

One important tip for this recipe is to make sure that the Nutella rounds are completely frozen before adding them to the donut batter. This helps them maintain their shape and prevents them from melting too quickly in the oven.

How to get creative with flavor and texture!

    1. Chopped Nuts: Sprinkle the chocolate glazed donuts chopped hazelnuts, almonds, or pistachios on top of the chocolate glaze for a delightful crunch.
    2. Shredded Coconut: Toasted shredded coconut adds a tropical and sweet flavor. You can sprinkle it over the chocolate glaze while it’s still wet.
    3. Crushed Cookies: Crushed Oreos or chocolate sandwich cookies can provide a cookies-and-cream twist to your donuts.
    4. Fruit Drizzle: Drizzle a small amount of raspberry or strawberry sauce over the chocolate glaze for a fruity contrast.
    5. Caramel Drizzle: Warm caramel drizzle can add a rich buttery flavor. Drizzle it over the chocolate glazed donuts for a decadent touch.
    6. Chopped Chocolate: Chop up some extra dark or white chocolate and sprinkle it over the glaze for an additional layer of chocolatey goodness.
    7. Coffee Glaze: Make a coffee-flavored glaze by adding a splash of brewed coffee or espresso to the chocolate glaze mixture.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of chocolate spread instead of Nutella?

Absolutely! While Nutella adds its unique flavor, you can experiment with other chocolate spreads or even homemade alternatives to suit your taste preferences.

Can I make these donuts ahead of time?

Yes, you can! These donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. However, for the best taste and texture, it's recommended to glaze them just before serving.

    Can I freeze the donuts?

Yes, you can freeze the donuts in an air-tight container for up to one month.

Can I bake these donuts without a donut pan?

While a donut pan yields the classic shape, you can still make these donuts without one. Simply spoon the batter into muffin tins, filling each cup halfway, add the frozen Nutella rounds, and cover with more batter before baking.

Can I use a different type of milk instead of buttermilk?

Yes, you can substitute buttermilk with regular milk or even non-dairy alternatives like almond milk or soy milk. However, buttermilk adds a tangy flavor and tender texture to the donuts, so you might miss out on some of those characteristics with a substitution.
